MONTCLAIR, N.J. — The Montclair Art Museum (MAM) has announced the appointment of Todd Caissie (Osage) as its executive director. Caissie was named deputy director in 2025 and interim director on January 1, 2026. He officially assumes the leadership role this month, following the retirement of Ira Wagner.
Caissie’s appointment comes as the museum looks to expand its exhibitions and increase community engagement. He brings more than a decade of experience in museum leadership, arts education, and cultural heritage. As executive director, he will oversee the museum’s artistic vision, daily operations, and finances. Among his priorities are increasing fundraising, membership, and attendance, enhancing programming at the Montclair Art Museum School of Art, and strengthening partnerships with local artists and community organizations.
Future Plans
Caissie steps into the role alongside recently appointed Chief Curator Kate Kraczon. Together with the museum’s board and staff, they plan to build on MAM’s renowned American and Native art collections through new exhibitions that celebrate both historic and contemporary works. Their vision also includes supporting emerging and underrepresented artists and strengthening the museum’s connections with the local community.

Previous Experiences
Caissie brings extensive experience in arts administration, nonprofit management, and strategic development to the role. During his tenure as deputy and interim director, Caissie strengthened museum operations and expanded partnerships throughout New Jersey.
